Week Thirty
~ One day at a time

This week began with my OB appointment. I weighed in at 174 lbs. which is a 3 1/2 pound gain in two weeks. It was a regular visit, you know, wait a long time, see the doctor who hardly looks at you and rushes out of the room as soon as you're measured. Everything's fine. The lab here forgot to fax the results from my second glucose test to his office so I have to make another phone call. Dr. W. wants me to have another ultrasound to make sure the babies are still close in size. Then he wants me to have ultrasounds every four weeks to check their growth.

The rest of the week went by really quick. I've been spending a lot of time getting things ready for my friend's wedding which will be on December 11. Her mother-in-law-to-be finished my dress (they had to make one for me because I'm in the wedding party and wouldn't have fit in what they wanted).

I've also started the almost scary task of re-organizing my office space (a corner of the dining room) and files. There was a lot of wasted space in my desk drawers and filing cabinet. I knew there must be a way to get things streamlined; it's just a lot of work. It's amazing how much stuff (papers, etc) I had "filed" and forgotten about. I feel better every time I empty my office garbage knowing I'll never have to sort that stuff again. I've found space and started going through papers as they come in. I no longer keep every plastic bag from the grocery store, etc. I've actually started to pick at the mountain on the dining room table. Sometimes I think I should put a sign there that says "watch for falling boxes." I'm trying to re-schedule my day as well. I get up at 6:00 a.m. most mornings to get some work done while the kids are still sleeping and use my evening time for more of the same (7 - 10 p.m.). I found that if I tried to work during the day, I was constantly telling the kids to 'go play' and getting frustrated with the interruptions. This new schedule seems to work better so far.

My hands continue to ache during the night. I've tried taking as much as two extra strength Tylenol but nothing works. I make nightly hikes to the couch and then around the downstairs level every hour or so to try to stop the pain. On a good note, I have been drinking lots of water (I always struggled with this before) because I always seem to be thirsty. At least I don't need to make myself reminder notes anymore.

I've gotten a lot of hugs and encouragement this week via e-mail and phone, and in person. Thanks to everyone for these! Things are more difficult when I feel alone. I'm looking forward to getting past the wedding, Christmas and New Year's so I can just focus on the babies. It won't be long now.
