Week 9
Perinatologist Visit

I saw the perinatologist at the beginning of the week, and he does not feel that there is anything that we can do right now for the pregnancy. He is not exactly sure why my OB referred me so early. He did say to stay away from the baby aspirin as there is no proof out right now that it helps, and it could hinder the early growth of the baby. He was really adamant about that. He did say that he wanted to see me at 22 weeks for a Level II sonogram. Brad's cousin died at a very early age of heart problems, and therefore all of our children need to be screened for this in utero. He said that he will do another sonogram later in the pregnancy to check for something called IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Retardation). In a women with hypertension, the blood pressure can affect the growth of the fetus. By watching the fetus grow through ultrasound, you are able to tell whether or not the baby is being affected by the high blood pressure. Even though I do not have any high blood pressure now, my history indicates that after 20 weeks there will be.

I am still have a lot of fatigue and morning sickness. If I try and eat every two hours it is not that bad throughout the day. Other than that, this week has been uneventful. I will see my OB tomorrow for a routine appointment.
