~ I Love Florida!

This vacation has been so great. It has been so long since I have had a vacation with my husband. We are constantly taking weekend trips to visit my family or go to a wedding or something. And every summer, at least a couple of times we go to a family cottage in Canada with a group of friends. But this is the first time since our honeymoon that we have stayed in a hotel and were gone for more than a weekend... it is fabulous.

We took off for Tampa with my husband's mother and brother very early Sunday morning. We got in around 10am and spent the day at The Florida Aquarium. It was so cool. They had all sorts of fish, sharks, corals, sea horses, octopus and jellyfish. But there were also a lot of water birds too. They had these great indoor ponds with trees and grasses in them that had fish and birds that were natural to that kind of pond. We even saw a Great Blue Heron.

After our day in Tampa we headed up to Lakeland to spend the week with my husband's grandmother. Really, the whole point of the trip was to spend some time with her since she is getting older and we haven't seen her since our wedding. When we got to Lakeland my husband and I checked in to our hotel and every one else went to Grandma's house because they were staying there. We had dinner together that night and made plans for the next day.

On Monday we spent the day with Grandma at the senior center playing cards and Bingo. I learned how to play Canasta and we had a lucky day at Bingo. We won enough games to cover our Bingo expenses for that day and Wednesday. I had so much fun. I love Bingo, the excitement of waiting for that one number and holding your breath until the caller says the next number, hoping someone else didn't get the last number they needed and finally breathing again when you are still in the running to be a winner. Ahhhh, what a game. After our day at the senior center we spent the evening hanging out at the pool and hot tub.

On Tuesday we went to Cypress Gardens. It was such a beautiful day, the sun was out and the temp was in the 70s. I forgot my hat and the sunscreen and got a sunburn. Actually, everyone I went with got a little sunburned but I was the brightest lobster of all. Cypress Gardens was a lot of fun. They are remodeling and repairing from the hurricanes so there were a few attractions that were closed but we still had a great time. They have this huge set of gardens; it was so impressive. There were thousands of different kinds of trees, plants and flowers. It was so peaceful and relaxing to walk through there. They even have a butterfly garden (inside and out) and we got to watch a water ski show.

I was disappointed when it came to the rides though; there really isn't much you can go on when you're pregnant. I love roller coasters and fast rides and I couldn't go on any of them. I tried to live vicariously through my husband and my brother-in-law but neither of them would accommodate me so I stuck to the double decker carousel. The Ferris Wheel was closed because of wind. BUT I did get a soft pretzel and an exceptional 2 flavor sno-cone. Just before we left for the day we looked in the gift shops and saw an amazing electric train display. I have never seen a display so large. They had all sorts of things along the train tracks: a circus, Native American village, mud houses built into a cliff and Mount Rushmore.

On Wednesday we played cards and Bingo again and had a pretty quiet day. We spent the evening getting ready for our trip back home on Thursday.

Traveling back home was really hard for me. For one thing, I tend to get carsick. So the trip started kind of badly with a 45 minute drive to the airport. Then we ate and had a 2.5 hour flight home. Things may have been okay at that point but after we touched down we had another 45 minute drive to get home again. When we finally made it to the house, after trudging through 4 inches of snow, I was exhausted with a headache and an upset stomach. I am so thankful that I have a prescription for headache medicine from my doctor. My headaches have been pretty bad lately and nothing was working to get rid of them... this new stuff, WORKS.

I loved my vacation. It was great to be away with my husband. We had a lot of fun with his family. I'm lucky I get along well with my mother-in-law, and my brother-in-law is more of a friend than family. Now that I'm home I feel like I have so much to do though. I can't believe I am completing my 17th week of pregnancy. I'm almost half way done, Woohoo! I have an ultrasound (where we do plan on finding out the baby's gender) in a week and a half and I should be feeling the baby move any day now. WoW!
