~ Ultrasound #5

This has been a pretty good week. Things are moving along. I've been feeling the baby move all the time lately. She is especially active after I eat. I can feel her doing flip flops all over inside my belly. It's such a strange sensation. It feels like I'm going down a roller coaster and my stomach is suddenly lifted into the air. I wonder what it will feel like in a few months when the baby is much bigger.

On Tuesday I had a bit of a break down. I was pretty upset and feeling like a bad mother. Monday I had my fifth ultrasound in this pregnancy. The technician was able to get all the pictures she needed but she was still concerned about the size of the baby. At the 19 week ultrasound the baby was measuring a few days small and in the 25th percentile for weight. This time she measured 9 days small and has dropped to the 10th percentile. The doctor called me after the ultrasound and she is pretty sure that there is nothing specifically wrong with the baby because her heart rate is very good; her spine, umbilical cord and measurements are all fine, except for how small she is. So the doctor is concerned that I am not eating well enough and the baby isn't getting enough nutrients. She wants me to go see a dietitian and have ANOTHER ultrasound in three weeks.

The past two days I have been in a fight with the insurance company and my doctors to get in to see a dietitian. Insurance won't cover it unless my family doctor writes a referral, even though it's the OB who wants me to go. The hospital won't even set up an appointment for me with one of the dietitians unless I have a referral, even if I want to pay for it out of pocket. And my family doctor doesn't like to make referrals. So I have a few more calls to make today and hopefully I will get my family doctor to cooperate. If I can't get him to write a referral I will go back to my OB and let her know what's going on. Hopefully she will know someone I can get an appointment with.

On the up side, I went on a shopping spree Monday and got some great maternity clothes. I got a pair of shorts, a t-shirt, a dress and a 2 piece crop pants set. The weather is getting so warm here (70 yesterday) and I only have dark winter clothes that I can still fit into so I've been wanting to get something for spring that I can wear to work and something for a wedding I have to go to at the end of this month. I found exactly what I wanted at Motherhood Maternity. I'd been having trouble finding maternity clothes that are larger than XL in a lot of the stores and I was sick of ordering on-line, paying shipping and having to send things back that I didn't like. I'm thrilled that I was able to try things on, get what I needed and not have to deal with ordering or shipping.

I also ordered the furniture for the baby's room on Monday too. It will take 8-12 weeks for it to get here because it all needs to be special ordered. We're getting a crib, dresser, glider rocker and glider ottoman. I've been trying to hold off on ordering it for a while because we are remodeling the top floor of the house and have several rooms torn apart right now. I'd rather not have the furniture get here and be in the way while things are getting completed and I have a feeling it will still be a while before the baby's room is ready for the furniture.

I guess that's about it. If things go well I will have seen a dietitian by next week and the baby will be putting on some weight. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.
