Susan's Pregnancy Journal

Weeks 37 & 38
~ Full Term and Ready to Go

I put off writing this entry in the hopes that I could do a birth story instead, but no such luck. Sam is still floating. At my 38 week appointment, I was between 2 and 3 cm dilated, so the midwife stretched me a little and began rupturing my membranes. It was fairly uncomfortable, so I hope it was all in a good cause. I lost some of my plug this week, and immediately looked to see if that was a good indication that labor was coming. I read:

"Labor could begin in a few hours"
Woo Hoo!!
"...or days"
Hmm, I can live with that.
"...or weeks."
D'oh!

Since I've reached another milestone and am officially full-term now, I thought perhaps it would be good to do another State of the Pregnancy check. Here's how I'm doing.

Food and diet - the less said the better, so I'll limit myself to three words: Cadbury's Creme Eggs. That should tell you all you need to know.

Exercise - Not my fault. Really. Our DVD player gave up and the only way I could do my yoga would be to drag a computer monitor out to the living room and set up the computer there. OK, so our monitor weighs about 3 pounds and this isn't really a big deal, but hey, I'm 38 weeks pregnant! I shouldn't be lifting things, I'm just sure. Anyway, I get so many contractions that exercise is really not fun anymore. I'm still walking a bit, though.

Kegel's - Oops. Forgot about those.

Emotions - All over the map and chock full of irritability. As an example, I got annoyed with a librarian for effusively congratulating me on reading to my daughter. He thanked me for doing it, as if I were doing it for his benefit. Obviously he meant to be kind and encouraging and I'm just a shrew, but hey, I'm 38 weeks pregnant! I shouldn't have to be nice to people.

Pregnancy brain - I'm now reading a series of books about a vampire hunter, so I think we can all see that my brain is in serious danger of atrophy from lack of use.

Preparing for Sam - The only category in which I'm doing ok. I have most of what I want and need and a list of what to pack for the hospital. I'll probably begin packing this week. We still need to buy the giant set of glitter pens and paper that we plan to give Susy to play with at the hospital, but otherwise I have what I'll need for the hospital.

So there you have it. I'm lazy, self-absorbed, eating terribly and losing brain cells by the day.
