Susan's Pregnancy Journal

Week 35
~ Preterm Labor

Hi! Well, I have had a LONG week. Tuesday night had a baby shower at work, and got a lot of the things that we still needed namely the Pack and Play. So, I was ready to bring the baby home . . . little did I know that the baby was ready to be here!

Wednesday, went to work, and noticed first thing that I had lost a lot of my mucus plug. Well, the day progressed, and I noticed I was having contractions, but I just figured they were Braxton Hicks, as I had been having a lot of those anyway. To make a long story short, about lunch, I decided to start timing when the contractions came, and realized they were coming about every 5 minutes. So, at about 2, I called the doctor and they told me to come in, so they could put me on the monitors.

After an hour on the monitor, they said "yep, you're having contractions" and checked me and I was 1 cm dilated. SO, off to the ER I went. They admitted me, and gave me a shot of Terbutaline to stop the contractions . . . didn't work. So, the next step was a magnesium drip, which also did little to slow down the contractions. So, I spent the night in L&D, and finally the next morning they were slowed down enough, the doctor sent me to the floor for observation.

At about 9 on Friday morning, just when I had finished breakfast, the contractions came back, rhythmically. So, back to L&D I go. See, they want to keep the baby in until 37 weeks if at all possible, which is December 18th. Anyway, we went through the whole thing again, and finally yesterday morning, they had slowed down enough they sent me back to the floor. This morning, I haven't had regular contractions, so they let me come home! YEAH!

I am on bed rest with "bathroom privileges" until further notice. Go back to the doctor on Wednesday, so I'll know more then. Been a LONG 4 days, but glad all is ok. Baby is doing well, and other than being tired, Ethan and I are good too!

Hope everyone is doing well, and I'll update you as I know more. Now I am going to lie on the couch . . . like a good girl on bed rest.
