Tania's Pregnancy Journal

18 Weeks 2 Days ~ June 13, 2011

I don't have very much to report following my post-consultant's meeting update. At the moment I'm consumed by regular (read: hourly at least) heartburn and am considering buying out Bayer so that I might have a constant and free supply of Rennie Antacid tablets. Quite seriously, it's so uncomfortable and I have had a couple of close calls whereby I've put off chewing a tablet for as long as possible and risked my stomach contents rising up to say hello.

You're happy I shared, aren't you?

On the other hand, I am thrilled to finally be able to report that I have felt definite movements from both babies! Knowing their positions at the moment makes it easy to know who is currently dancing around. After all this time of waiting and wondering if that was it, I am getting the soft, gentle little flutters I've been waiting for and I know with certainty that it is them. This never gets old, I swear! It's still as magical as it was with my first baby. I could have a million babies and still be in awe at the miracle of pregnancy and birth.

According to my Babycentre app each baby measures approximately 14cm from crown to rump and weighs around 190g. Girls will already have their fallopian tubes in place and over 2 million eggs in her ovaries while boys now have noticeable genitals. Will we be finding out the sex of the babies? No, we won't. Our next anomaly scan is on July 7th. My concern is that everything is well with the babies and I can't help but get back on my worry train until I hear the sonographer tell me after what seems like an age of scanning, clicking and measuring that everything is ok. I hope that the sonographer will tell me that twice over.

Less stressful is the upcoming 4d scan we booked privately for the beginning of July. This will be the fun scan where we'll see our babies' faces in the womb. We had a 4d pregnancy scan last year when I was pregnant with Joseph. It was the first time we had done it and were blown away by the images we were looking at and so we knew we would definitely be booking one again this pregnancy.

So I leave you with my latest twin pregnancy belly picture taken on Saturday when I turned 18 weeks. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference to me. What do you think?

18 weeks
