Week 8 - April 14, 2006
~ Houston, We Have a Heartbeat!

What a week this has been -- between not fitting into my clothes anymore (and still trying to find out where in the devil my maternity jeans and shorts went to) and attempting to keep this little bean "fed," you'd think that would be excitement enough . . . well, we got some reassurance this afternoon (Friday 4/14) that all is well with our little one . . . and we finally got to see him/her !

Both my husband and daughter went with me to this appointment (daughter had the day off from school due to the holiday) and was able to see her future sibling; it was amazing to see the baby's little heartbeat (doctor says it's between 140-150 -- totally normal), and moving around a bit, too. Probably the juice they gave me while waiting for the doctor didn't hurt, I'm sure!

My doctor was GREAT -- in fact, I hope he ends up being the one who delivers our baby. My husband really liked him too -- very approachable and just very down to earth, as well as knowledgable. He really put my mind at ease. It's always so tenuous, this early in the game, because you just don't know -- is it growing? Am I doing ok? Am I eating/drinking the right things? I mean, I know I went through all this before, but there's always that uncertainty . . . and you want to do everything right so your baby is healthy.

Hours later, I'm still in awe when I look at the baby's picture . . . and remembering seeing his/her heartbeat . . . and moving around. I mean, for me, it's been "real" for some time, but now . . . especially for all of us, it's definitely hit home.

Now -- the fun part. I get to tell work. But at least my main "supervisor" (a term I use loosely) is out next week so I get to tell his boss, who was the one who hired me (and honestly who I feel the most comfortable talking with about anything). I can't hide this any longer, and I don't want to!

Ok, I've been up since 2:30 am (had to work the morning shift), and it's now nearly 10 pm, so I think I'm going to call it a night. Any updates in the meantime, I'll be sure to pass along!
