~ Exciting Times
What a great week it's been! Tuesday was our OB appointment. Good news, Hannah is finally in position! I'm not really sure how she's oriented though. My guess is that her head is down (which the OB confirmed), her bottom is up and to my left, and her legs and feet are stretched into my right side (where she loves to kick). Apparently my cervix is still "nice and long" so not too close yet. And I'm finally experiencing the infamous Braxton-Hicks contractions. I first felt them Tuesday morning but was skeptical as to whether or not that was what was happening. However, when my OB went to check Hannah's heartbeat, she noted that I was in the middle of a contraction so my thoughts were right.
For three hours Saturday and another three on Sunday, James and I took a labor class with a local doula. I finally got more of the information I was looking for regarding a natural delivery. She was not against medical interventions or medicines by any means but was very supportive of those who wanted to do without medications, if possible. Not only did she teach the standard information on what labor is, she dealt specifically with pain-relieving positions, relaxation and other Lamaze-oriented techniques. It was great to have James there to get a better idea of everything. Then Tuesday night I went to a 2 ½ hour class on breastfeeding. It was an excellent class with lots of great information. I'm feeling much more confident about it now. I know it will still come with its struggles but I have greater faith than before.
My mom was able to finish the nursery this week and it looks amazing! Basically, we took an idea from a paint book and put it to work with what we had. We started with a solid white room, a natural colored crib and a large, white dresser. Look at these pictures to see the beauty we ended up with! Each day, I get more and more excited. Sometimes I sit in the room in the glider and just smile as I anticipate the room being used.
This weekend James and I will be traveling west (about a 3 1/2 hour drive) for my sister's baby shower. She's due only 3 1/2 weeks after I am. It should be a good time - minus the monotony of the drive.
Almost finished with school . . . almost graduating . . . almost a mommy!
Until next time . . .
