Tracy's Multiples Pregnancy Journal ~ a story of pregnancy after infertility

Week Twenty-Seven
~ Bedrest

Bedrest has got to be one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. I'm not allowed to do anything. I have so much I still needed and wanted to do to prepare for the twins' arrival. Oh, well. If I don't listen to the doctor, the babies will have to spend time in the hospital, and I'd rather they be born healthy and on time.

More bad news this past week was that I failed my 1-hour glucose test. Big surprise since I have insulin resistance. My results were 209 and the normal should be under 130. They didn't even bother to have me take the three-hour test. Yesterday Larry and I went to the hospital for appointments with a nurse practitioner who taught me how to test my blood three times a day. We also had an appointment with a nutritionist who showed me what I should be eating and when. My levels were so high while practicing taking my blood that it was decided that I should go on insulin immediately.

Last but not least, I had to see the doctor who is filling in for my doctor while he's on vacation. He checked my cervix, which doesn't seem to have changed any. Good news finally. Oh yeah, I also got another steroid shot and Larry gets to give me the next one today. Supposedly, I will be taking these twice a week within 24 hours of each other.

I guess I've been feeling so down because things were going so good there for a while. I assumed all along that it would be my blood pressure that would cause problems down the road. Surprisingly, it seems to be behaving itself. Of course, lying in bed all day probably helps too.

I'm typing this update myself thanks to my wonderful hubby. He moved his recliner in front of the computer desk so that I may recline and type. It's great to be able to communicate with the outside world again.

Larry has been so great. He is cooking, cleaning and making sure we're taken care of. I'm sure it's not been easy for him either. I try to talk him into getting out of the house on the weekends. He doesn't need to baby-sit me all the time. I don't want him to feel as trapped here with me when he's not working. He did finally get out and went fishing with his cousin.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and has a Happy New Year! I guess I'll be sending Larry out for videos and some sparkling cider!!
