Amy and Aspyn
Pitocin, Prolapsed Cord and emergency C-Section

My name is Amy and my daughter's name is Aspyn Shae Marguerite. She is my third child and decided to come into this world with difficulty. She was due on February 23rd, 2001 but I convinced my doctor to induce me on February 19th while at my doctor appointment I was 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. They induced with pitocin and things were going well until I was about 5 cm dilated and my doctor broke my water. Within minutes the baby's heart rate was dropping and I was examined again. The cord had come down before the baby's head. I was rushed in for an emergency c-section and she was born within minutes.

Although I was sad that my husband could not be there for the birth, (because the heart rate was dropping so fast, they did not have time to bring him in the operating room) I am grateful that our daughter is alive and healthy. She was 7lbs. 1.6 oz and 18 and one half inches long. She did have some difficulty breathing while she was being fed so she spent a few extra days in the hospital but is doing very well now.
