When my husband and I decided to start trying to have a baby, it was one month of trying and we got pregnant! We were so excited! I was a little nervous, being a first time mom... just thinking about the labor scared me.
I was due December 1, 2000. My Mom flew miles to be with me and my husband during the birth. She flew in November 23, 2000 to be on the safe side. Well, December 1st came and went and I waited and waited as days kept passing by.
Finally on December 12th I woke up at 6:00 am not feeling good. I had bad diarrhea all morning and bad pains that were shooting up and down my back. It never occurred to me this was labor, I felt that I waited so long, I forgot that I was waiting to have the baby! LOL!
My parents and I went out shopping in the afternoon, my back pains were coming every 7-8 minutes. My mom suggested that I go to the doctor. I went and sure enough was in early labor. That was at 3PM. I was only a half finger dilated. My doctor told me to go home and rest, he said he would probably see me in the hospital the next day on his shift.
I went home to rest but I couldn't rest - my pains were coming every 2-3 minutes! My husband and I called the doctor, he told us to come right in to the hospital. We got to the hospital at 6:45pm, I was sent to a room with a fetal monitor, and was in that room for an hour, in pain! I was finally checked, and I was at 5 centimeters. I was FINALLY admitted into a room.
My labor pains were horrible, the baby was lying face up, instead of face down. I had the worst back pains, I thought I was dying! I ended up having two epidurals, the first one never worked, and the second one worked for only 2 hours, I felt everything!! My water broke and flew everywhere, hitting the walls of the delivery room... GROSS!
Finally at 8:45am, my baby girl was delivered with the help of a vacuum suction and an episiotomy, but I ended up tearing so bad, I had 4th degree tears. I think my tear was so bad, it made the nurse sick when it happened. That was the worse part about the birth, having myself rip from one end to the next. 2 hours of pushing, 25 hours of labor, Jessica Renee Cacioppo was here! She was 8 pounds 5 ounces and 21 inches long! We were surprised to see it was a girl, we thought the whole time I was carrying a boy. I love surprises! That day was the best day of my life. (Very painful, but totally worth it!) I can't wait to have another.... I guess people really do forget the pain! I'm ready for baby # 2 in a year or so.... can't wait!
